The cooperative portion of the playschool means that parents play a role in the learning, too. This gives parents a unique opportunity to experience what your child does at playschool. Parents are asked to help in the class approximately 1 or 2 classes per month, as well as help a few times per year in other aspects of the school (like toy cleaning, theme changes, and fundraising). To make this possible for families, we offer flexibility by giving families choice about when they are able to volunteer, encouraging families to help build the volunteer schedule by direct contact with Room Representatives and the Volunteer Coordinator, welcoming any adult family member to volunteer (Mom, Dad, Grandmas, Grandpas, Uncles, Aunties, other caregivers are all welcome), building relationships between families to support each other with volunteer duties and childcare. It’s a great way to get to know other families in your community and support your child’s learning.
Highlights of the Program include a non-profit parent-cooperative, allowing families to play a crucial role in their child’s education through volunteering, “Learn Through Play” philosophy with core subject and emergent literacy/numeracy learning embedded within the program, kindergarten readiness skill development, fun, developmentally appropriate themes to enhance learning, in and out-of-school field trips, guest presenters, and special events, strong relationships and easy transitions for students and their families, a child-centered, holistic approach to management, teaching, and learning, over 35 years combined teacher experience, and subsidies available for eligible families. |
